Auchentoshan Distillery is from Gaelic "Achadh an t-Oisein" and translates as "the field of the corner". Auchentoshan is often known as "Glasgow's Malt Whisky" due to its proximity to Glasgow and "the breakfast whisky" due to its sweet and delicate nature. It is one of six malt whisky distilleries in the Scottish Lowlands.
Auchentoshan holds the distinction of being the only distillery in Scotland to utilise a third still in its whisky production. The process of triple distillation creates the highest distillate of any single malt whisky; around 81%, compared to 70% in double distillation. Because all the impurities have been distilled away, Auchentoshan whisky is smoother and more delicate than any other single malt whisky.
Auchentoshan is highly awarded, with the 12-Years Old, American Oak, and Three Wood offerings all winning medals at the International Wine & Spirits Competition. |
