Description

Description:

Ableforth's Bathtub Gin is a cold compounded gin, a method rarely seen in modern gin production. Through cold compounding, six traditional botanicals are steeped in neutral spirit and the liquid sampled at regular intervals until the taste is perfect. This method also imparts a light natural colour to the gin. A method once typically associated with cheap low quality gins, it is today more affordable to distil gin in large quantities, and cold compounding has ironically become the more premium method of production, especially when done with high quality ingredients as found in Bathtub Gin. The name 'Bathtub' hails from the prohibition era, when bootleggers made home spirits for speakeasies, and in order to bring the spirit to bottling strength would need to add tap water from the bath since the bottles wouldn't fit in the sink. Alternatively, the botanicals used by the bootleggers may have been left to infuse in the bathtub itself. Whichever story may be true (if not both), the Bathtub name has become forever associated with the Roaring Twenties and glamorous speakeasy culture. Presented in a bottle wrapped in brown paper and sealed with wax and string, for an authentic Victorian era look.
