Bollinger RD 2008 Champagne is the 2023 release of this limited production vintage champagne. It was first created in 1967, when old vintages were not that fashionable. Bollinger RD contrasts exceptional freshness on the palate, thanks to the natural acidity of the grapes at harvest and the extra-brut dosage, with the aromatic intensity of the very greatest vintages. As a side note, Bollinger RD was the first wine in history to put a disgorgement date on the label.
The 2008 vintage blend: Composed of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes only, in an almost 3 to 1 proportion. The grapes were sourced from 18 Crus, predominantly from Ay and Verzenay for Pinot Noir and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant for Chardonnay. 100% barrel fermented. The 2008 vintage is fast gaining legendary status in the Champagne region.
Colour: Glimmering rich straw colour with golden reflections.
Nose: Enticing aromas of marzipan, strewed apricots, honey, and breadcrumbs accompanied by frest notes of bergamont.
Palate: A rich, precise mousse. Citrus notes followed by flavours of Mirabelle plums and vine peaches. A very vivacious wine which unfolds to reveal exceptional complexity. Notes of fresh hazelnut and salinity combine to create an extremely long finish.
Serving: Best served at 12 C. This will highlight the wine's unique style and will allow you to enjoy the way the aromas evolve throughout the tasting experience.
Ageing: Extremely long ageing - more than four times longer than required by the Appellation. Ageing takes place under cork.
Recently disgorged: Bollinger R.D. is released only a few months after disgorgement. This recent disgorgement contributes to the wine's remarkable freshness.
Dosage: A low dosage, just 3 grams per litre is added.
The bottle comes presented in a solid brown Bollinger RD wood box.
