Courvoisier

Courvoisier is amongst the four leading cognac houses in the world. Established in 1835 by Emmanuel Courvoisier and his associate, Louis Gallois, running a wine and spirit merchant company in Paris. Originally, Emmanuel and Louis acted as traders for the best cognacs of the region but eventually the two decided that the only way to guarantee the very finest cognac was relocate to Jarnac in the Cognac region and become producers themselves.

Courvoisier's reputation grew so quickly that their warehouses in Paris were honoured with a visit from the Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. Taking several barrels of cognac with him, he started giving a ration of cognac to his troops, whose officers so appreciated it they named it 'The Cognac of Napoleon'. Napoleon III, the nephew and heir to Napoleon Bonaparte, also personally requested Courvoisier as the official supplier to the Imperial Court.
