Elijah Craig

Elijah Craig Bourbon is produced by the Heaven Hill distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. It is named in honour of Reverend Elijah Craig, a Baptist preacher and farmer sometimes credited with the invention of bourbon. The story tells that he experienced a barn fire on his farm where he had been storing his whiskey barrels. Putting new whiskey in the burnt barrels regardless, Craig inadvertently discovered that it aged better in charred barrels, improving the colour and flavour.

Elijah Craig is produced from batches of 200 barrels or less, and always has been. It was a small batch bourbon before anyone even coined that term.
