The Famous Grouse blended scotch whisky dates back to 1896. William Gloag, son of a Scottish grocer and wine merchant began producing blended whiskies in the 1860s, so that when his nephew Matthew took over the business in 1896 he was already experienced in the trade. The same year, he created The Grouse Brand blend, naming it after Scotland's national game bird.
This blend proved so popular it was renamed The Famous Grouse less than ten years later and since then has grown to be Scotland's best-selling Scotch whisky. |
