Flor de Cana rum has been distilled in Nicaragua since 1937. The tropical Central American climate of Nicaragua contributes to the development of Flor de Cana. The barrelhouses are not artificially cooled and so the high temperatures of the country mean the rum matures much faster than many other aged spirits, but also creates a lot more evaporation, or "The Angels' Share".
The Angels taking a little more is considered worthwhile though, as it allows Flor de Cana to become one of the finest rums in Latin America. Having received over 150 international awards since 2000, Flor de Cana has won more awards than any other rum in this period and consistently receives high praise from rum enthusiasts. |
