Heineken
Heineken's history dates back to 1864, when Gerard Adriaan Heineken convinced his wealthy mother to purchase The Haystack brewery for him. The brewery was well known for producing a working class beer, but Heineken had his sights on producing a more refined product. Hiring one of Louis Pasteur's students to develop a proprietary yeast, Heineken began producing a lager using Bavarian bottom fermentation methods. Heineken's lager took a number of prestigious awards in its early years and since then has only grown. Today, Heineken can be found in 170 countries around the world, making it the most international premium beer in the world. |
