Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen is crafted using an exclusive library of ghost and rare whiskies, featuring highly sought-after malts from Port Ellen. This limited edition release explores the rich flavours and distinctive distillery characters of hand-selected whiskies.
It's a whisky that provides a fleeting opportunity to savour the character of whiskies from 'ghost' distilleries that have long since closed, but whose spirit lives on in the ever dwindling stock of their maturing whiskies.
This release brings together eight treasured whiskies from the four corners of Scotland, including irreplaceable whiskies from three 'ghost' distilleries and five rare malts from existing distilleries.
At the heart of this limited edition lies the highly sought-after Islay single malt, Port Ellen. This 'ghost' distillery shut its doors back in 1983. Sitting low on the waters edge of Kilnaughton Bay, watched over by the four-sides of the Carraig Fhada lighthouse and the occasional glow from the Northern Lights, the Port Ellen distillery is now silent, but the memory of the ships setting sail with their precious cargo of smoky single malt whisky lingers on within each bottle.
Captured in the blue bottle of this rare whisky, the 'ghost' grain distilleries of Caledonian and Carsebridge add layers of creamy, vanilla sweetness. The rare malt whiskies from the great distilleries of Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol and Oban deliver waves of waxy citrus, rich malt and tropical fruit flavours. Port Ellen dominates the warming finish with its distinctive maritime smokiness, that lingers long. The unique character of this whisky is further magnified by the selection of remarkable casks from Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves.
