Mandarine Napoleon is the creation of Antoine-Francois de Fourcroy, personal physician to Napoleon Bonaparte. He noted that the Emperor enjoyed mandarins and tangerines in cognac, and so created a liqueur based on distilled mandarins and other botanicals, blended with cognac.
The original recipe was lost for many years, but rediscovered in 1892 by the Belgian company Fourcroy who bottled it and brought it to a wider market. This historical favourite of Napoleon himself is today enjoyed around the world. |
