Pimm's No.1 Cup is the creation of James Pimm, first produced in 1823 to offer to the customers of his oyster bar in the City of London as an aid to digestion. It was served in a tankard known as a "No.1 Cup". Pimm soon had to begin larger scale production to keep up with demand from other bars.
Pimm's today is a much loved summer long drink in Britain, and though debate abounds as to the "correct" mixers and fruit garnishes to use, the drink can be found as a staple at the Wimbledon tennis tournament and almost any other British summer gathering. |
