Portobello Road No. 171 gin was created by Ged Feltham and Jake Burger at their "Ginstitute" at 171 Portobello Road, London, right above the Portobello Star bar. The pair acquired a tiny copper pot still, puntastically named "Coppernicus", with the idea of making single botanical distillates and allowing tourists to blend their own gins, but soon began experimenting with their own blends.
Finding a compelling traditional style London dry gin, they took the recipe to Thames Distillers to scale up production, delivering the first batch in 2011. Just a few years later, their spirit is already set to be distributed internationally and the pair have given it pride of place in their Ginstitute museum. |
