The story behind Punt e Mes goes that one day in 1870, a stockbroker in the Carpano wine shop, who had been discussing a one and a half point share price increase, ordered Carpano vermouth with an extra half measure of bitter using a regional expression "Punt e Mes". The name describes the drink having "one point of sweetness" and "half a point of bitterness"
Punt e Mes has a distinctive flavour, and whilst a great aperitif on its own, it makes an interesting alternative to a regular rosso vermouth in cocktails. |
