Roku Japanese Gin is a journey through four seasons with six Japanese botanicals. Sakura flowers and leaves represent the spring, bringing a delicate floral aroma to the gin. Sencha and Gyokuro green teas represent the summer, imparting a herbal, leafy character and some tannic notes. Sancho peppers represent autumn and give the spirit a touch of spiciness. Yuzu peel, representing winter, brings the citrus character to the profile. Eight further traditional botanicals, including juniper, bring the whole experience into harmony. Each botanical used is harvested at the peak of its season to extract the most flavour, and is distilled individually using the methods that will best highlight the botanical's characteristics. Delicate ingredients like sakura blossom requires vacuum distillation, while the deeper flavour of yuzu can be best obtained by copper pot distillation. The name Roku means 'Six' in Japanese, a number core to the design of this gin, from the six Japanese botanicals to the hexagonal bottle. The bold calligraphy on the label created from traditional Japanese washi paper highlights the aesthetics and craftsmanship of Japan. |
