Southern Comfort originated in 1874, the creation of bartender Martin Wilkes Heron at McCauley's Tavern in New Orleans. His customers had been dissatisfied with the harsh taste of whiskey at the time and had requested something smoother. Heron set to work creating a blend of whiskey with fruits and spices and called it Cuffs & Buttons. As it turns out, the name didn't catch on as well as the drink and so it was renamed Southern Comfort. |
