Stroh was created in 1832 by Sebastian Stroh in an attempt to replicate traditional rum. Austria-Hungary at the time had no access to tropical colonies and Inlander-Rum was a blend of distilled spirit and other flavours to imitate the aroma of the molasses-based spirit. It was a product that would become a popular local specialty.
The Stroh recipe has been passed down through generations and is produced exactly the same today. In 2009, Inlander-Rum became a protected geographical designation and since Stroh is entirely produced within Austria it can proudly call itself a genuine Inlander-Rum. This unique product is a real taste of Austria. |
