Talisker

Founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, Talisker distillery is the only distillery on the Isle of Skye. Within five years of opening, Talisker was one of the most popular distilleries in the region and by the turn of the 20th century had grown to become one of the best selling malt whiskies in the UK.

The distillery was destroyed in a stillhouse fire in 1960 and had to be rebuilt. As a part of this, exact replicas of the original stills were built to preserve the Talisker flavour. Talisker was reputed to be the favourite whisky of author Robert Louis Stevenson.
