Talisker 25 Year Old is an excellent whisky that continues the Talisker reputation for producing great whiskies. It balances the wind swept shores of the Isle of Skye from which comes the salt and pepper character with the elegant oak and delicate fruit notes. It's a show piece masterclass in graceful ageing with a confident air of old-fashionedness.
Warm gold in colour. On the nose, you get seaweed and old oranges, with distant smoke and hints of chalk. It's also surprisingly fruity and juicy. It takes to the palate gently, with some acidity and saltiness that quickly builds in intensity. There's an extraordinary flavour development. It's slow and sweet, then the pepperiness kicks in with heat that's balanced by the bitterness, salt and smoke. The finish is long, slightly bitter and very drying with a hint of smokiness.
