Magnum bottle. The Chocolate Block is an exceptionally perfumed red blend, bringing complex aromas of red and dark berries, violets and intense white pepper. The dark fruit persists on the rich, textured palate alongside spicy notes of cardamom, clove and black pepper. A balanced structure with integrated acidity and powdery tannins. 16 months ageing in French oak barrels brings a distinct cedarwood character. A smooth and lifted finish.
The wine gets its name from a story, that when it was first created, the flavours led people to believe it had been made with chocolate. The winemakers asserted that this was simply a result of the terroir and blend of grapes. The original vineyard which created this outstanding blend has since sadly been bought and turned into a car park. Boekenhoutskloof nonetheless have recreated their original recipe and it remains as highly acclaimed as ever. |
