Tullamore Dew 12 Year Old Special Reserve is a carefully crafted and extra aged expression in the range. Like the original Tullamore Dew, it is a triple distilled blend of all three types of Irish whiskey, but is blended using a higher proportion of pot still and malt whiskeys. These are matured in former bourbon and sherry casks for twelve to fifteen years, creating an outstanding whiskey of great complexity. Spicy on the nose, but with the sherry cask maturation bringing a little more fruity wine character than is common in Irish whiskeys. The extended time in wood brinks a little oakiness. Robust and creamy on the palate with a prominent chocolate note and distinct spiciness. Dried fruit and nut notes bring praline to mind. A rich and lingering finish with notes of citrus and marzipan. |
