Wild Turkey bourbon whiskey is a product of the Ripy brothers' family distillery in Kentucky which opened in 1869. The brand would not get its name until 1940 though, when the distillery executive Thomas McCarthy took it with him on a trip hunting wild turkey with friends. The next year his friends asked for "that wild turkey whiskey" and the name stuck.
Wild Turkey's master distiller Jimmy Russell is the longest serving active master distiller in the world, having crafted bourbon at the Wild Turkey distillery for an impressive 60 years. He is the pioneering mind behind flavoured bourbon after launching American Honey in 1976. |
